Construction Superintendent
Position Overview:
Concentric Corporation is partnering with a respected project and construction management firm to identify an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee complex commercial, public-sector, and specialty construction projects throughout the Chicagoland area.
This role serves as the primary on-site leader during construction, coordinating contractors, managing project schedules, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring successful project delivery from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working on high-profile projects that serve communities and public organizations.
Location: Chicago Area, IL
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site leadership and supervision for construction projects from mobilization through final completion
- Coordinate daily activities of contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and project stakeholders
- Monitor project schedules and develop short-term look-ahead plans to ensure timely project execution
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards
- Facilitate communication between project teams, clients, design professionals, and contractors
- Lead construction meetings, progress reviews, and coordination sessions with project stakeholders
- Identify and proactively resolve project issues related to schedule, quality, constructability, and field operations
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and construction documents to ensure project alignment
- Assist with project budgeting, change management, progress tracking, and cost control efforts
- Coordinate inspections, permits, utility services, temporary facilities, and project logistics
- Support project planning activities during design and preconstruction phases, including constructability reviews and contractor coordination
- Assist with project closeout activities, punch list completion, turnover documentation, and owner training
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based role supporting projects throughout the Chicago area
- Frequent interaction with clients, contractors, consultants, and public stakeholders
- Combination of office, project site, and meeting attendance responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of construction management, superintendent, or field leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, building systems, site development, and construction sequencing
- Experience coordinating multiple trades and managing on-site construction activities
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software such as Procore
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to effectively manage priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
Preferred Experience:
- Experience managing public-sector, institutional, municipal, park district, education, or specialty construction projects
- Familiarity with multi-prime contractor project delivery methods
- Experience supporting projects from design through final occupancy
