Middleware Engineer
Position Overview:
A growing organization is seeking a Middleware Engineer to design, build, and support integrations across internal systems and cloud-based platforms. This role is responsible for developing scalable, secure, and reliable integration solutions that enable seamless data flow across the enterprise.
The Middleware Engineer will work closely with architects and IT teams to design integration frameworks, troubleshoot performance issues, and drive automation across systems. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex integration challenges and building systems that improve efficiency and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and maintain middleware and API integrations between internal and external systems
• Develop scalable and secure integration architecture to support business operations
• Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, data flow, and reliability across integrations
• Partner with architects, developers, and IT teams on system design and implementation
• Support and enhance enterprise integration platforms and API management tools
• Implement best practices for integration, including logging, monitoring, and security
• Drive automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes
• Support end-to-end system integrations across multiple platforms and environments
• Participate in Agile development processes and contribute to iterative improvements
• Maintain documentation for integration architecture, processes, and standards
Work Environment:
• Onsite role in Omaha, NE
• Collaborative IT and engineering environment
• Mix of project-based work and ongoing system support
• Agile, fast-paced development environment
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Five or more years of software engineering experience with strong design capabilities
• Three or more years of hands-on experience with middleware or integration platforms
• Experience with API technologies including REST, SOAP, and service-oriented architecture
• Strong programming experience with Java or Groovy
• Experience working with enterprise databases such as SQL Server or Oracle
• Understanding of enterprise integration patterns and messaging frameworks
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control tools such as Git or Bitbucket
• Knowledge of security, logging, monitoring, and performance optimization
• Experience working in Agile development environments
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with middleware platforms such as MuleSoft, Anypoint, Axway, or similar
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise integration projects
• Exposure to cloud environments and DevOps practices
• Familiarity with tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, or similar automation platforms
• Understanding of server and infrastructure environments
