Controller
Concentric Corporation is leading a search for a seasoned Controller to join a growing, operations-driven organization. This onsite position is located in Madison, Wisconsin, and works in close coordination with a centralized finance team based outside of Wisconsin.
The Controller will be a key contributor to the organization’s financial integrity, overseeing accurate reporting, efficient month-end close processes, and sound accounting controls. This role calls for a hands-on accounting leader who is comfortable managing details, supporting operational partners, and collaborating closely with finance leadership.
Summary
The Controller oversees daily accounting activities and ensures the accuracy and reliability of financial information used by leadership to assess business performance. The position emphasizes ownership of the month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and cross-functional coordination with accounting, payroll, and operations.
The successful candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a practical, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and complete the month-end close process with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
- Apply and maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and standard accounting policies
- Prepare and record general ledger transactions, including intercompany, banking, and payroll entries
- Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, payroll accounts, customer balances, and other balance sheet accounts
- Research and resolve discrepancies, variances, and reconciling items
- Review accounts payable activity for accuracy, coding, and appropriate tax treatment
- Ensure invoices are properly classified and payments are processed on schedule
- Provide backup and support for billing, accounts receivable, and payroll activities as needed
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements and management reporting
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and operating plan development
- Monitor capital spending in comparison to approved budgets
- Deliver ad hoc financial and operational analyses to support leadership decision-making
- Prepare and submit required federal, state, and local tax filings
- Assist with annual audits and other compliance-related initiatives
- Contribute to acquisition-related activities, integrations, and financial system enhancements
- Maintain effective internal controls and sound financial governance practices
- Work closely with accounting, finance, and operations teams to enhance financial visibility
- Help implement tools, reports, and processes that improve understanding of performance trends
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Five+ years of experience in accounting and/or general ledger accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and established accounting standards
- Experience working with ERP systems
- Background in an operational or project-based environment preferred
- Exposure to acquisition integration or system implementations is a plus
- Advanced Excel skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams
- Detail-oriented, hands-on, and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
